Great Pyrenees
Here at the farm we have Pyrenees dogs that protect our animal. These mighty dog live, eat, sleep and are born among the sheep. We would lose a lot of animals to the coyotes if we did not have the Pyrenees. We have one males, Bernard and four females Digger, Nanni, Shelby and Nova. All our dogs work together to patrol the farm during the day and especially at night when the coyote threat is the greatest. It is amazing to watch the sheep and the Pyrenees interact with one another. If a dog that is not a guarding dog goes near the flock the sheep are nervous and very protective of their lambs but our Pyrenees are there while we lamb and the ewes are actually calmer knowing their protectors are near. Digger often helps lick the lambs off and has nursed lambs when she has a litter of pups during lambing season. We have many pictures of the dogs “babysitting” the lambs and the sheep “babysitting” the puppies. These dogs are literally part of the herd of sheep. Each year we have had these dogs we have witnessed there amazing bound with the sheep and their willingness to protect.
